NYC’s AI Customer Experience Leader: Gustavo Sapoznik’s ASAPP

Gustavo Sapoznik, Founder and former CEO of ASAPP, built one of the most well-funded AI companies focused on enterprise customer experience. Sapoznik studied at the University of Chicago before founding ASAPP in New York City in 2014 alongside co-founder Marcus Westin, with a mission to build machine learning products capable of solving some of the world’s largest and most difficult problems.

Under Sapoznik’s leadership, ASAPP assembled a team of prominent machine learning researchers and built an AI-native platform designed to make enterprise customer support faster, smarter, and more efficient. The company’s technology has been deployed at Fortune 500 enterprises, including Amazon, JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, and DISH, delivering automation and work simplification at scale for large-scale customer service operations.

ASAPP’s growth attracted significant institutional backing over the years, raising more than $400 million in total funding from investors including Fidelity Investments, Emergence Capital, and Vast Ventures, reaching a valuation above $1.6 billion through its Series C round. In 2022, Goldman Sachs recognized Sapoznik as one of the “Most Exceptional Entrepreneurs” at its Builders and Innovators Summit, citing ASAPP’s contributions to advancing AI applications in customer experience. Sapoznik has since transitioned from his day-to-day CEO role at ASAPP — where Priya Vijayarajendran now serves as CEO — to founding a new venture, Conquest Labs, while continuing to serve as an independent board member at ASAPP. Throughout his career, Sapoznik has argued that automation alone is easy, but true resolution of customer issues is hard
