From Islamabad to Dubai: Umair Masoom Usmani’s Bet on Streaming, Sports, and Web3

Umair Masoom Usmani built myco on a premise most media executives were still hesitant to embrace: that streaming, sports rights, and blockchain-based rewards could coexist in a single platform. Born in Islamabad and educated at IoBM before pursuing executive education at Hult International Business School and Ashridge, Usmani relocated to Dubai in 2021 to launch what began as MContent and evolved into myco — a Web3-enabled video streaming platform built around a “watch and earn” model for viewers and creators alike.

The bet has scaled quickly. Myco has secured streaming rights to major cricket properties including the ICC and Pakistan Super League, alongside English Premier League, Bundesliga, and Serie A football rights across Pakistan and Bangladesh, plus squash, MMA, and esports titles including Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG. The platform has grown to more than 20 million users within roughly eighteen months of its most aggressive expansion phase, and closed a $10 million Series A round in 2024 from investors including Daman Investments, Aptos Labs, and Ghaf Capital Partners, at an $80 million valuation.

Usmani’s highest-profile moment arrived in 2025, when myco became the first Pakistani-origin startup to reach the finale of “Meet the Drapers,” the Silicon Valley pitch competition run by venture investor Tim Draper. Myco emerged as the season’s top-performing startup by deal value, securing a $500,000 equity investment alongside a $1 million SaaS services contract.

Beyond myco, Usmani now operates under the umbrella of myco Holdings, which includes ventures such as BuyPass, A47.ai, MyTeams, and MyAgency, positioning him as a builder across live commerce, artificial intelligence, and entertainment technology rather than a single-product founder. With offices in Dubai, Karachi, and Cairo and continued expansion into North America and the wider GCC, Usmani has positioned myco as a case study in how founders from Pakistan’s diaspora are exporting entertainment-technology platforms onto a global stage.
