Ahmed Abu-Bakar, Co-Founder and CEO of Vyro AI, has built one of Pakistan’s most successful AI companies without ever leaving Islamabad. Before founding Vyro, Abu-Bakar worked as a software engineer at Afiniti and Telenor, and briefly as a network engineer at CYBERNET, after completing his bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications from NED University of Engineering and Technology.
Abu-Bakar co-founded Vyro AI (originally Vyro Systems) in 2019 alongside Muhammad Abdullah Rafique and Zain ul Abedien, building an AI-powered photo and content creation platform from Pakistan — a market where startups typically lack the compute resources, venture funding, and distribution advantages enjoyed by Silicon Valley companies. Taking over as CEO in August 2020, Abu-Bakar led the company through a fully bootstrapped growth path, reaching profitability within four years without external funding.
Vyro’s flagship product, ImagineArt, has grown into one of the most competitive text-to-image AI platforms globally, ranking among the top three on industry leaderboards alongside major players like Midjourney, Adobe, Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. The company has surpassed $23 million in annual recurring revenue, a milestone that puts it ahead of many well-funded Western AI startups at a similar stage.
Abu-Bakar’s success with Vyro has been described as a defining moment for Pakistan’s global tech narrative, demonstrating that independent, emerging-market startups can compete at the frontier of AI development without the scale, capital, or historical advantages of established tech hubs. Alongside co-founders Abdullah Rafiq (CTO) and Zain ul Abedien (COO), Abu-Bakar continues to lead Vyro’s expansion, positioning Pakistan as a visible and legitimate part of the global conversation around generative AI.
