Terence Naidu co-founded Envisionit Deep AI in 2019 alongside his wife, paediatric radiologist Dr. Jaishree Naidoo, and technologist Andrei Migatchev, building a health-tech company that applies artificial intelligence to one of medicine’s most acute capacity shortages: the global scarcity of radiologists able to interpret diagnostic imaging. Naidu serves as Business Development lead and Co-Founder, bringing nearly two decades of experience in investment banking, hedge funds, and private equity to a venture rooted in his wife’s clinical frustration, that Africa had only around twenty paediatric radiologists to serve roughly 500 million people under fifteen across the continent, with training taking fourteen years to complete.
The company’s flagship product, RADIFY, uses AI pattern recognition to help doctors interpret chest X-rays, mammograms, and ultrasounds more quickly and consistently, particularly in settings where specialist radiologists are unavailable. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Envisionit Deep AI deployed a tool capable of detecting COVID pneumonia from chest X-rays in under twenty-five milliseconds, a system used at a 700-bed hospital in South Africa’s Northern Cape province that had only one radiologist on staff, and in multiple ICUs for patient triage during the pandemic’s second wave. The company’s RADIFY Triage software has since received FDA 510(k) clearance for triaging pneumothorax and pleural effusion, two critical findings in emergency care.
Envisionit Deep AI secured $1.65 million in funding from New GX Ventures SA, a joint venture between New GX Capital, RMB Ventures, and GIIG Africa, following its win as Southern Africa’s regional champion at the African Startup Awards. The company has since relocated its headquarters to the United Kingdom, supported by a Transformative Tech grant from Innovate UK, as it expands RATIFY’s reach into additional imaging categories and works with UK regulators to help shape validation frameworks for medical AI.
Beyond Envisionit, Naidu founded and serves as Managing Director of the broader Envisionit Group of Companies, which includes Truzo, an escrow platform he also leads as CEO aimed at reducing procurement fraud. He has been named a finalist for South Africa’s 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year award, appointed to the UK Government’s Global Entrepreneur Programme, and serves on the board of the African Leadership Academy. His work with Envisionit Deep AI reflects a broader argument gaining traction in global health: that AI-assisted diagnostics, rigorously validated by clinicians, can meaningfully close specialist care gaps in regions where training enough human radiologists would take generations
