Anas Niaz, Founder and CEO of Bioniks, has turned a childhood fascination with science fiction into a mission that has changed hundreds of lives across Pakistan and beyond. Born and raised in Nawabshah, Niaz was drawn to characters like Iron Man from an early age, which led him to pursue a degree in mechatronics, robotics, and automation at SZABIST University in Karachi, graduating in 2016.
What began as a final-semester college project — building a prosthetic arm inspired by science fiction — evolved into Bioniks, a social enterprise Niaz founded to address a striking gap: an estimated 80% of the world’s roughly 100 million amputees do not have access to a prosthetic. Bioniks set out to change that by developing low-cost, customizable, AI-powered bionic prostheses for people with congenital limb differences or limb loss due to accidents, electrocution, or conflict.
Under Niaz’s leadership, Bioniks has empowered hundreds of individuals globally, including survivors of violence in Pakistan’s conflict-affected regions, and has extended its reach as far as Gaza. The company’s flagship product, a bio-mechatronic smart prosthesis for below-the-elbow amputees, restores not just mobility but a sense of independence and dignity for its users.
Niaz’s work has earned him significant international recognition, including a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, the CIF Doha 2021 award, and recognition among the “100 Meaningful Businesses” of 2022. He has also been featured by outlets including Forbes, Deutsche Welle, and Futurism. Beyond Bioniks, Niaz serves on the advisory board of FreedomGate Prosperity and as an independent director at IRADA, continuing his broader commitment to social impact and inclusive development in Pakistan.
