From Cairo to the GCC: Galal El Beshbishy’s Bet on AI-Powered Financial Inclusion

Galal El Beshbishy co-founded Synapse Analytics in January 2018 alongside Ahmed Abaza, launching the venture directly out of university at just 24 years old. El Beshbishy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech, where he spent nearly two years on bio-inspired technology research, before pivoting straight into entrepreneurship with no prior corporate experience, building his entire career around the company he co-founded.

Headquartered in Cairo and now part of Hub71, Abu Dhabi’s global tech ecosystem, Synapse Analytics set out to solve a specific problem: enterprises across the Middle East and Africa recognized AI’s potential but struggled to translate interest into deployable systems. As Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, El Beshbishy has focused the company’s technology on what he calls the “dark matter” of AI, the unglamorous work of integrating machine learning seamlessly with existing data sources, core banking systems, and loan infrastructure, rather than treating AI as a standalone experiment.

The company’s flagship platform, Konan, helps financial institutions embed machine learning into existing decision-making rules for credit scoring, cross-selling, and dynamic pricing, while its document extraction and process automation platform, Doxter, and its video analytics platform, Azkavision, extend the product suite into surveillance and back-office automation. Synapse Analytics has structured its offerings for cloud, on-premise, and hybrid deployment, a flexibility El Beshbishy has pointed to as critical for banks that cannot rely on cloud infrastructure alone. By 2024, the company’s decisioning products had been used to decide on over 2.5 million loan applications and facilitate more than $150 million in granted loans across the region.

Synapse Analytics has raised at least $2 million in a pre-Series A round led by Silicon Badia and Hub71, following an earlier round led by Egypt Ventures, funding directed at expanding the company’s AI technologies across the GCC and Africa. The company has built banking partnerships with providers including AWS, Crealogix, and TUMM, and El Beshbishy has represented the firm at institutions including Harvard Business School’s MENA Conference, discussing what it takes to build, deploy, and maintain machine learning models in live financial environments. His work reflects a broader shift in the region’s AI sector: away from pilot projects and toward production systems embedded directly into the financial infrastructure that determines who gets access to credit.
